Klima 2050 PhD at Google’s Geo for Good summit

Erin Lindsay recently presented a 3-minute Disaster & Crisis ‘Lightning Talk’ (video available 5:07-9:07) at the Geo for Good 2022 Summit at Google’s headquarters in Silicon Valley 4-6 October. Erin was one of 300 in-person attendees from a variety of research, not-for-profit, and government organisations. The summit was about using geospatial information to solve a variety of challenges, such as mitigating climate change effects, monitoring of illegal rainforest deforestation, agricultural monitoring, conservation of endangered species, and public health problems.

Erin spoke about the method she has developed using Google Earth Engine to improve the visibility of landslides in satellite images, in order to detect more landslides in Norway. This will supplement ground-based observations which mainly come from Statens vegvesen and BaneNOR.

Along with practical workshops and getting one-on-one technical help with current projects, the summit was a great opportunity for meeting others and fostering future collaborations. All sessions were recorded, and materials will be made publicly available on the event website: https://earthoutreachonair.withgoogle.com/events/geoforgood22
