Lunch seminar on Geologic hazards of the Pacific Northwest, USA

  • NGI 72 Sognsveien Oslo, Oslo, 0855 Norway

NGI invites to seminar:

Title: Geologic Hazards of the Pacific Northwest, USA.

Speaker: Tom Badger, landslide expert retired from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Being on a convergent plate boundary, the landscape of the Pacific Northwest is dynamic, diverse and scenic.  As this tectonic setting generates one of the most geologically hazardous regions in North America, its landscape and rich environment have drawn rapid population growth in recent decades.  We will review major scientific advancements in understanding the region’s earthquake, volcanic and landslide hazards, as well as society’s efforts and roadblocks to address them.

About the speaker:
Tom Badger has a BS in geology and an MS in geological engineering.  He recently retired from the Washington State Department of Transportation, ultimately serving as the Chief Engineering Geologist.  During his 32-year tenure with WSDOT, he worked on a great variety of transportation-related earthwork and structure projects, as well as many landslide and rockfall remediation projects.  He is excited and grateful for the opportunity to spend a few months at NGI, hopefully contributing to some consulting projects and pursuing his interest in first-time landslide initiation in OC clays.
